Here, under the care and supervision of Dr. John Seward, director of the institute, is confined to the nearly sixty RM Renfield, a man easy to anger, alienation stunned and deaf to any straight, which gobble insects and cites verses from the Bible, fulfilling the role of messenger of a mysterious, evil and powerful Lord, which is in communication with mediumship. Gradually, the psychiatrist becomes repository of confidences of the individual patient, on learning of his unhappy childhood: abandoned in a forest at the age of one year, Renfield is found by a reverend who transmits the name and try to give it up for adoption. Following some humiliating past experiences at a couple of families, the parish priest is resolved to return with him the foundling. With the exception of the pious reverend, Renfield feel about him only indifference and lack of human beings, developing a visceral attachment to this animal, his only friends, from which it receives unconditional acceptance. One day a woman knocks on the parsonage rough and dull named Moira, who asks to be accepted as a maid. Between this and the baby is born a sudden, instinctive aversion which leads Renfield little inclination to confront the cruelty hitherto dormant. It is only the beginning of a parable of pain and madness, where disturbing presences lurk. To oppress Renfield is, in fact, an occult spell that seems destined to drown him even more than that the whole world.
